Another reason to avoid Wal-Mart

http://www.yahoo.com/s/840436

It's sad that such a huge corporation with a 'help the community' attitude is really screwing with this family.

Dawn, I thought of you when I saw this! I hope the video works...

GAH! As much as I hate Wal-Mart (and I really really really really do), I have to say they are right in this case.

*ouch* It hurts to say it, but it's true.

This isn't a case solely applicable to Wal-Mart...insurance contracts are typically written that way. The problem here, I think, is that her lawyer did not win her a big enough settlement from the accident. That is the true issue.

Wal-Mart cannot "make an exception" in this case because contract law is very very clear. And if they did make an exception, it would set a precedent opening the door for future employees.

It sucks, but it's life, and their lawyer should have told them this would happen (or they should have read the insurance contract).

Let that be a lesson kids! Read the fine print and make sure you know what you are entitled to.

I know, I know. I understand they are within their rights, but their 3rd quarter profits last year were close to 100 billion, with a B! And they're worried about a few hundred thousand? It's a bummer that they are following the laws, but it doesn't seem like the right thing to do for this family.

Ain't that America?
