Working in the garden...again

I went out the other day and found that Andrew had become a machine. Something like a Honey-please-dig-a-big-hole-right-here-3000.
He's been working really hard every night to clear the old grass and condition the soil so it can support new plant life. I got my green thumbs back and played in the dirt Sunday night. We got a lot done, and I figure we're a third of the way through this project. Whew! Our goal is to finish the work by July 4th so we can enjoy it when we have visitors over the holiday weekend, but we hope to be done MUCH sooner. We have plans to build our own firepit between the 2 big trees and make a seating area around it. The firepit will come in handy when our backyard is overgrown with the wild honeysuckle and other random brush back by the horse farm...we can burn all the foliage and clean up our yard!

A view of the whole garden.

Spirea and river rock border with edging. (we'll do this all the way around both gardens.)

Marigolds, landscape fabric and a pile of old sod at the back of our yard.

Knockout roses and a tree from Mom and Dad.

Same pine tree as above, just a closer shot. When we planted this tree, it was about 10 inches tall. There's a second one on the other side of the yard, and there were 3 more in between them...but they didn't make it. We planted gigundo trees in those spots instead.
